January saw the culmination of almost a year’s planning and preparation with the launch of the Elevate Women’s Leadership Development Programme.

This 7 month pilot programme for thirty women from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities (BAME) employed as academic and professional services staff at Bristol, Bath, Cardiff and Exeter universities, offers a creative learning opportunity consisting of half day workshops, action learning sets and one to one cross-institutional mentoring support.

Elevate offers a space where leadership concepts and ideas are introduced whilst exploring strategies that support the navigation of systemic practices which have historically fixed the professional identities of BAME women. It also encourages women to develop their own authentic leadership style and to increase their influence in institutions.

Central to the learning approach designed and facilitated by Dr Peggy Warren, Yvonne Field and Jamie Schearer-Udeh is the centering of women’s lived experienced and engaged pedagogy which encourages full interaction between all those involved in the programme. Participants will also design and complete a personal or professional development project with support via a buddying system.

We will keep you updated on how the programme progresses over the coming months!
