Developing workshops for Yo!Fest 2018, Meeting in Strasbourg, January 2018

January 26th, 2018

As the process of developing exciting workshops for Yo!Fest 2018 continues, recently took place another meeting in Strasbourg. The Ubele Initiative was represented by Macey McMullen who shares with us below her thoughts about this new experience:

Today a group of enquiring minds walked downstairs into a room. This began an unknown journey which became more clear 2 hours later. The group introduced themselves to each other and why they wanted to attend Yo Fest! The reasons was as diverse as the emerging group:

"I have never been to the country."
"I am interested in the political action."
"I want to network across Europe and get more information on what is happening."

We began discussing intersectionaility (The various aspects of humanity, such as class, race, sexual orientation and gender, do not exist separately, but are complexly entwined). This allowed the group to begin a discussion about intersectionaility, "Why it is important?" "To whom is this important?" "Where is this important, what spaces?" and how all of these transcend.

We finished our session beginning to explore the workshops which the group will deliver and continual means of communications moving forward.

I personally am very excited to explore the onion like layers of intersexuality to learn more about myself, to use within work and understand more about others.

This journey will be Great! Yo!Fest!
