GIDA Housing Co-operative Survey

October 30th, 2022

Want better housing options?

Take part in the Gida Housing Co-operative Survey and help us to create affordable housing in the community.

Gida will focus primarily on providing Black and minoritised communities in Haringey borough with opportunities to live in decent, affordable housing, thus creating stable and diverse communities.

Gida values are aligned with Co-operative values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and unity.

We believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. We care about you. You matter!

The Gida Vision:

The vision is to be an affordable housing provider which empowers Black and minoritised communities, by giving them influence and collective control over the management and maintenance of their own homes. This is as a response to the poor quality and insecure private rented housing many have had to endure. Gida will initially focus on one site - the St. Ann's Hospital site - and influence the masterplan of the site where possible and make decisions on the homes and community spaces to ensure these create a sense of community in the long term. This will ensure that underrepresented communities are acknowledged and accommodated on the development.

Haringey Homes have made housing one of its top priorities across the borough and they are working to deliver 1000 new council homes at council rents which is underway. The Council recognises the importance of working with others to achieve their ambitions. However, there is still an issue for those who are unlikely to qualify for council housing, but with no prospect of ever owning a home, even through Shared Ownership.

The various community groups represented under Gida Housing Co-operative provide context for development. These communities need 2-3 bedroom properties for their members.

We'd love to hear from you.

We want to improve the current housing situation. Your opinion matters!
